Pain can be an imminent thing, or it can be a future fear.
Pain and Fear are intertwined. Where you find one, you find the other. Dissect “Pain” and you will find a large proportion of it is fear: fear of what is causing or going to cause pain, fear of what it might mean to your present life, or fear of what is going to happen to you or your loved ones in the future because of this pain. Mainly, this is fear of the “Unknown”. While you are suffering, you are overtaken by fearful worry. Fear tightens the muscles and tenses the emotions, overpowering the brain‘s mental functioning. The ability for logical thought is lost. Satan shouts so many “what ifs” loud, fast, and hard in our thoughts, that there is no place for reason to reside. Hysterical calls for God get lost in the melee.
Where is trust and sincere prayer? Don’t you know that God will not allow you any more pain than you can bear? Read his word. He repeatedly sets your mind at ease with his positive reassurance. The fear of death, pain, or possible disturbing future happenings; this is all foolish. Live according to His will, trustingly do what is put in front of you to do, and give no fearful thought for the future, for the tomorrows will take care of themselves. Live each day to its fullest in confidence, suffer when the time comes if you need to, and undergo your suffering in trust and assurance. Fortify yourself with the knowledge that your situation is being overseen by God and have no fear. Relax your pain into God’s care according to His superior knowledge of good. If your death is programmed to be the final outcome of your present pain, fine! Death can be a beautiful experience, both to the individual and those attending him. There is no pain in a fearless death. One just slips out of life’s sorrows and into a glorious Eternity.
Death is only sorrow when beset by fear, and Fear is the enemy. Fear is Satan.
