CHAPTER 2, ESSAY 1 – Soul

What is man’s soul?  We hear about this “soul” often.  Where is it, can we put our finger on it?

A man’s soul is the sum total of all his feelings, motivations, desires, animosities, loves, ambitions, abilities, talents, and more.  A man’s soul contains all states of consciousness that make an individual unique.

Much enters into this.  Development doesn’t come quickly.  It changes as life goes on, developing according to our life’s choices and the decisions that we make day to day.  Our C desires, beliefs, talents, mental abilities, daily loves, desires, ambition, anger, pride, self-image, and the ego assurances and the coping mechanisms we use, all help to develop the soul.  Accepting or resisting ideas, inherent determination of mind, slovenliness in thinking, all earthly attitudes and acquired tendencies of character; all enter into the making of one’s soul.

Does soul contain spirit, or is the spirit of man separate?  The total of our being, what we are intrinsically, is all encased in the same body package in which our Super C and Sub C, along with our C exist.  Our Soul is the total of this package, it is the living “us”.  In life it is clouded by our humanity, but death clarifies it.  At death, all that is good and without evil in this soul now goes with us into eternity.  This soul is “us” forever with all our good memories and happy and fulfilling experiences.  Only the evil and avarice is removed from our being.  We are individuals as we always were, only now without sin and glorified.  We may relive the joy, the beauty, the love, the excitement, express our talents, and otherwise revel in ecstasy.

None of the acts of a man are important to his soul, only the way a man feels about them.  What motivation prompted the act?  Was it self-serving, or done out of love?  Is he truly sorry when he offends, or is it just talk?  What is his basic driving force?  Does he will to please God, or look good to other men?  Does fear prompt his act?  Act only out of love for God; do not fear retribution.  If you have qualms, prayer takes care of that.  Fear is only a tool of Satan.  God sees within a man and knows the whole soul.  Only He is the judge of man.

All three parts of man’s Consciousness work together to form his Soul.   It is the unifying force that makes him individual from all other men.  “Let all that is within him glorify the Lord.”
